OPRAP - Organización Puertoriqueña de Apreciación de Piedras
A new national Association of stone fans was started up in Puerto Rico.
The iniziative was promoted by Mrs Neida Rodriguez who, for some years, has been dedicated to the art of suiseki, having gained a lot of experience by taking part in International Congresses all over the world, didactic trips and frequent courses mostly in Italy to look for stones.
Very wisely, the name choosen for the new organization recalls the appreciation of stones, without limiting the field of interest and knowledge to only suiseki, but leaving space for the reach and traditional Chinese art and the influence of other cultures on the world.
The activity of Oprap began with didactic initiatives for its members and spread into the art of stones in Puerto Rico Clubs, taking advantage of Chiara Padrini’s presence, who held workshops in wooden base construction , stone searches in the area, and lectures in some club of the Island.
Without doubt it is possible to find interesting stones, and the quality of the material is good both for the shapes and colors.
Mrs. Rodriguez recently displayed one of her stones , which was used as the logo for the new Association, at the U.B.I. Congress of Fermo – Italy, to take the new iniziative to other countries, and having had an extraordinary success, winning all the prizes offered: the best UBI Suiseki of the year 2007, IBS award and also that of the A.I.A.S. This enterprise could not have had a happier or more welcome beginning !
The stone lovers of the world can have a new contact and reference to share their passion and knowledge
